A Writer's Bucket List

I want to be a writer. I might even be one now, that's debatable.  My supportive, loving friends and family tell me I'm a writer, but I do doubt it almost daily.  But I want to be a writer so I soldier on.

Some days I almost write something.  Some days I actually write something.  Most days I have no focus and feel a little lost.  At least, that's how I WAS feeling.

Before Dana's book.  I'm not kidding.  I now feel like I have a plan as a writer because her book offerred up a bunch of fabulous suggestions and I jumped right in and started following them.

Writer's Bucket List Website

The best part is that the book is more like a package.  It comes with a writer's bucket list workbook, a bucket list of exercises, and a brainstorming workbook.

The three items from the list that I am attacking first are:

1.  Writing poetry - this is not easy.  I am attempting a serious piece, and you might remember the fun children's piece that I did last week.  Neither one is easy, lol.
2.  Start a newsletter - I have a start date in my mind for June 1st and am currently brainstorming what this will be about. (of course if you have any suggestions or requests, please feel free to voice them)
3.  Interview someone and write their story - I haven't picked this person yet, but I'll keep you posted on the assignment (and again, if you have a suggestion or request, please do speak up).

This book is officially available today, February 5th, and I heartily recommend it.   If you decide to purchase it, please do let me know how much you enjoyed it.

I don't have any suggestions that relate with your list of things to do but, I do have two things I want you to check out (so that you'll be able to confidently say "I AM A WRITER!".
1) Elizabeth Gilbert at TED: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86x-u-tz0MA
2) Write it Down, Make it Happen http://www.henrietteklauser.com/_books/_writeitdown/index.htm
Enjoy~

That book sounds pretty awesome. I'm going to have to check that out (I want to write too!)
I'm pretty sure that a published author has said that if you write, you are a writer, but I don't remember who it was!

I loved reading your post! I'm also on the book launch team, and it was really great to read Dana's book, so that I not only get to help, I got to learn a few new tricks, and that is no small thing. I look forward to following the journeys (and blogs) of the people I met here. Just goes to show, your never too old to learn something new. and yes, we are WRITERS.

I enjoy this suggestion! I feel like I need a writer's book for dummies most of the time while writing a blog!

You are a woman with a plan! You could have asked me...I'd have reminded you that you are a writer and a pretty good one too! Look at you go! Another poem planned..your first one was awesome and I'm still waiting for that painting! A newsletter? Sign me up when it's ready! An interview? How fun! Be merciful to that poor soul!!
You are so awesome girl!

You should TOTALLY interview me. I am fascinating.
You were supposed to laugh. 'Cause not only am I fascinating, I'm funny too. But hey, looks aren't everything.
I crack myself up.
My dad was an awesome writer. He LOVED to read and wrote song after song after song. My mom always wanted me to be a writer. Still does. I write every day for a blog, geesh, doesn't that count?!
I could send you all my high school poems and you could call them your own. They're really deep and meaningful. :o)

Thanks for all your support, Terry!

Of all the tips and tricks we have to learn, just calling yourself "writer" is probably the toughest one to master! You've got it, though, and with readers like these, you'll surely be saying it with confidence soon enough ;)

Best of luck with the interview -- so much fun, no matter who it is!

Dropping by from the blog hop. You've got great goals! Coming from someone who struggled with whether or not I was a real 'writer' for awhile... if you write, you are a writer. You might not be a published author, but you ARE a writer, the very instant you put words on page and start to tell a story. Don't forget that!

Yes! You are a writer...growing each day. great review.

Terry, I just stopped by from the blog hop and love your byline "Write Create Connect" If those are not the words of a writer then what more can I say. Look forward to reading your blog.
